A Few "Apps" to a Slimmer You

Okay, I don't know anyone who can't stand to lose a few pounds. Well, I do, but I hate those people so we won't talk about them anyway! :) If you're like me, trying to balance your life with about a million things you need to do before midnight, trying to figure in when to work out is probably the last thing on your plate.

After having Rylan, I looked back at some old photos of me, and I became determined to get back to some "resemblence" of what I used to look like. The problem is where to find the time to sneak that in.

So I first joined a gym, that I love, but the times they have these great classes just doesn't seem to work into my schedule. And I have a perfectly great treadmill in my basement, but the thought of staring at a wall for 40 minutes isn't really appealing to me. So with all this technology at my finger tips, I decided to turn to my trusty iPhone for some help, and help I got!

There are some great apps that can really keep you going, especially when you're on the go. The 2 I have found to be helpful are iFitness and Lose It.

First iFitness

is an app that gives you a bunch of different workouts to use, depending on what you're trying to accomplish. An example, if you're trying to tone your arms, there will be a bunch of different exercises focusing on triceps, biceps, etc. I get bored really easily, so having a variety at my fingertips works for me!

Now with Lose It,

this handles the eating portion. I use to think, well, if I'm working out all the time, why can't I eat what I want. This however, is not the right mindset. (Totally wish it was though, that would be awesome!) So I've had to pay more attention to what I put into my body for this to be more successful. This is sorta like Weight Watchers, but you're counting calories instead of points. This was a huge eye opener for me. Like milk, you would think, well milk is good for you. But did you know that 1/2 cup has 45 calories? I was like WHAT! I probably drink two cups a day, which was turning out to be almost 200 calories. That's a lot! More than anything, it taught me that even though fruit and veggies are good for you, there's more calories associated with these than I thought. I was definitely more conscious of my portions as well. Do you even know what a 1/2 cup of cereal looks like? I'll tell ya right now, not much!

So iFitness you can purchase for $1.99, where Lose It is FREE. So back to my story about my weight, well, I was 12lbs heavier after having Rylan, and now only 8lbs. I know, not a huge success, but definitely a start! Let me know if this works for you!

Little man Joshua

I had the privilege of photographing this adorable little boy Joshua. Okay, the entire time all I wanted to do was pinch his cheeks! They are so cute!!!! This "little" man is going to be 8 months, and he's already wearing 18-24 clothes! I had a blast getting his first professional photos done. Thanks again for letting me be part of your day!

Wedding Guide Shoot

Well, I had the privilege of doing a photography shoot for the Wedding Guide this past fall. It was just released this past month, so I can officially blog about it. Yeah! This was so much fun b/c there was so many details, yet I could completely see this done at a wedding. That's what I love about the Wedding Guide, I feel like it's something my brides could actually use at their wedding. This shoot was no different!

This time Laura from the Wedding Guide was helped out by the amazing duo from Tying the Knot, event planners Brooke and Christine. Everyone did such an amazing job, we got a 2 page spread in the magazine! The shoot took place at the lovely Wilder Mansion in Elmhurst. I was blown away by the place. It's gorgeous! This was harder to shoot than I originally thought. I think b/c there was so much to see on the table! But I love this idea.

So this shoot was more difficult than ones I've done in the past because there were 2 shoots in one! There was this whole other lounge space, which has become pretty popular at weddings. The mansion worked perfect because it already had a designated space, and the drapings added a little touch of elegance.

Fortunately for me, this was just colored water...but boy did it look inviting!

Even though the drinks were just for show, the popcorn was not! I was able to take some of that home with me, and Kailee was very grateful. :)

And last but not least, a girls always needs a bouquet.

this year!

That Time of the Year

Howdy!

Well, the new year has started as crazy as I thought it would be. Not that I'm complaining, I did see it coming. But this is always the time of year that everyone gets sick, and I hate that. First, it was Kailee and it took about a week and a half before she felt good. No sooner was she better, Rylan got sick, with something totally different. He ended up having it for about 2 weeks, and then the biggest baby of them all, my husband James, got sick. :) And he's still sick. Somehow in all of this, I have miraculously stayed healthy. I just think it's b/c I know I can't get sick, I just can't. I won't let it happen. So sickness, if you think you're gonna get me down, I'm here to tell you that you won't win!

Then, there's my little niece Emily. She had what we thought was the flu, for about a week. But after not getting better, they admitted her into the hospital. She officially will have been in the hospital for one full week tomorrow, and we still don't know what's the matter with her. They have done every time of scan known to man, blood tests up the wazu. She been poked, prodded, and then some. I feel so bad for her. The worst part is they don't know what's the matter. As a parent, that's probably the most frustrating part of it all. I couldn't imagine. Luckily she is at a great hospital, she's at Advocate Christ Medical Center. My friend is an ER doctor there, and he told us her doctor is the best, so she is in good hands. Now we're hoping they'll find something soon so she can finally be treated and be able to go home.

I didn't know how else I could help, so I decided to take in Emily's sister, Grace, for the meantime. She was with us already for a big part of the week, and now is back tonight. So we have a full house! Grace really misses her family, but at the same time, I think she's having a lot of fun playing with Kailee and helping take care of Rylan, so the distraction is great for her. Tonight, we skyped with Emily at the hospital, and it was great to see her. Technology is amazing. What a great way to communicate with someone when you can't physically be there. Why I didn't think of this earlier, but now Gracie gets to see her family as much as she needs to, until everyone gets to come home. How perfect.

So say a little extra prayer for my little Emily the next few nights. She needs it. And everyone knows I can't do a blog post without putting a photo, so here is a photo of Emily and Kailee holding Rylan after he was born. How cute are they?

The new craze

Well, the Christmas season is upon us. I am so looking to forward to this year because Kailee is a little older now, and I love to see the excitement on her face just talking about Santa. I have to say, last year, watching her walk down the stairs and seeing what Santa left her....it's what Christmas is all about! She was so excited that she giggled so crazily, so I can only imagine what this year will bring.

So, I have already started shopping. This is the earliest I've ever done it. And I have to say, I have become crazy about Black Friday. Yes, I was always the one to say what the heck is sooo important to get that you get up at 4am to drive and wait in this ridiculously long line to save what??? Maybe $50? But a few years ago, I started going out, not quite that early, but I may leave around 7 and head out to see what I can get. I have sorta made it a sport. My sister has joined me in the craziness, and we just make a morning out of it. No kids, no spouses. Just us girls. However, this is not for everyone. Don't expect to go out early in the morning to get some good deals and not have to wait in long lines, find parking anywhere near the entrance of the building, or even a shopping cart some times. It's just expected! I hate going out and hearing people complaining the entire time their in line, being rude to others, and worse...I actually saw someone get out of their car to fight someone b/c they took their parking spot. I KID YOU NOT!

So this leads me into this year. So if you are a parent, you will appreciate this! This years' toy that every parent is trying to get their hands on are Zhu Zhu pets. They are this little hamster that when you push in their nose they squeek and actually scurry around. You can buy different habitats for them and connect them to make your own dwelling. Here's the commercial.

So, a few weeks ago I was told that Walmart would have around 30 of them for a big ad they had coming out on Sunday, sale starting at 7am. Rylan happened to wake up around 6:15 to eat, so after he was done, I thought I'd head out and take my chances. I get there, and who do I see in line, but my dad! He had decided to try to get there since he thought I wouldn't. There were about 12 other people waiting. I was so surprised, I was going to get one! As I was talking with my dad, an employee came out to hand out numbers. She was telling everyone that it would be only one per person, and that they had received 2 shipments, so they'll have plenty for everyone. So I went up to her to tell her that I hadn't received a number yet, and that's when all hell broke loose. The lady behind my dad went berzerk! I had not realized that no one had yet received a number, let alone that they had lined up. The employee had come by handing out the numbers, and since I was next to my dad handed me one, and the lady behind us lost it. She started yelling at me that she had been there since ten to six and the line was back there and I better get in the back of the line. So I told her to calm down, that there are plenty for everyone, repeating what the employee had said. And she would not stop, just yelling that she hadn't waited there since 6 for me to cut, and I was absolutely blown away by this. So naturally, the italian in me came out, and I yelled back at her. I had had it! So I told her, my exact words were some like "There is only 15 of us here, there's plenty for everyone." And when she kept going, I finally said, Listen, you're the reason why we have to have numbers and wait in line, you're the reason why people get trampled on at these sales. Calm down, these are not life saving machines we're in line for, these are pet toys...toys. Remember that." And then she stopped. I think I embarrassed her enough that she couldn't say anything else. The funny part is, when they came out to hand out the toys, they didn't even line us up! So people who came even after me received them first. And the lady who yelled at me, well, she came back in to complain, her's was broken!!!! And there were none left! Ha! Carma sucks huh! :)

How to lose weight

Well, it's been about 5 months since I had Rylan, and I still need to lose about 5lbs to get back to the weight I was before getting pregnant with him. BUT, I still have 10lbs to lose that I never was able to shake off from my first pregnancy with Kailee. That's probably the minimum that I would want to lose, my ultimate goal would be around 35lbs. I just don't want to be one of those mom's that can't chase their kids around because I'm too out of shape. The problem is finding the time! :) When you go to bed at 1am and get woken up by a baby once during the night, then somehow my some miracle wake up
at 7:30 to start your day, it's just hard to find not only the time, but the motivation to workout! So I started at LA Fitness, which I love, except for the fact they have no early morning classes. I am definitely a person that needs to go to a structured class. Their earliest one is 8:30, and James is already gone to work. So LA Fitness, here's my formal complaint! :) What about us moms that work from home? Well, then the season just hit for me, and now my workout plan has gone to the wayside. So it's time to start up again!

Well, we found this clip on YouTube, and I can't believe there's a 5 year old showing me up! :) It's a little long, but you'll get the gist in the first five minutes. It's pretty amazing!

Hey everyone!

Well, we are in the swing of things! It is getting busy here at Bellissima, and we wouldn't have it any other way! I've done some really great weddings, with really incredible people, and I can't wait to show off some of the images. But I had realized, I never blogged many of my weddings last year! It got a little crazy, so I left it out. So I am making it a point to add some of the previous ones with my new!

Anyways, this is a non work related post. A little while back a friend of mine sent me this clip. It got me thinking, gosh, I love reading the funnies! Somewhere over the years, I just stopped. No specific reason, just did. So in light of my new revelation, I vow to begin reading them again! I love humor, and in our lives there is ALWAYS room for a little more giggling, don't you think. So it's that time of year. You know what I'm talking about. When you can finally veg on the couch all night and there's actually something to watch on the tube. Okay, so in the past, I've been super disappointed in my choices of new shows. It seems every time I decide to watch a new television show, they don't make it past the first season. So this year I vowed to not watch anything new, especially if it's on ABC. That network has completely lost me for new shows. That being said, I have not given up on the shows that I started watching already. And I have to say, that Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice have me still sitting on the edge of my seat for the continuance of what happened last year. All summer there's been rumors and talk about Grey's, but I just saw this 5 minute clip of how the season starts, and I am blown away. I CAN NOT wait for this show, and this teaser has just made it worse. Check it out here.

Jackie's Senior Session

Hi Everyone!

Wow, what a couple of weeks I've had. First, last week James and I went to Michigan on vacation. This is the first vacation with the new addition, and I have to say it was the best vacation we've taken! I will be posting some pics later this week. Before I did that, I wanted to share a senior session I did of Jackie. I am now starting to shoot high school seniors, so if you know of anyone who is looking to get their senior photos taken, we are officially booking sessions! Let me just say, this session was awesome. It's so different than a wedding b/c at a wedding you are definitely on a schedule. With a baby session, it's much more laid back, but you are constantly trying to get the attention of the little one, and it's more just following the around. With a high school senior, it's so much quicker, with double the amount of photos taken. It was crazy! But I am loving them! Here are a few of my favorites from the session.

Cool iPhone App

Hi Everyone!

I found this cool app recently from Benjamin Moore. Since we're redoing the baby's room for Rylan, we have been going over and over what paint colors we should use, the design of the room, blah blah blah. So much going on. But I came across this really handy tool from Benjamin Moore, it's an app to put on your iPhone, so when you see a color that you like, you take a picture of it, and it will give you a color pallette of matching BM colors. How cool is that! I love anything that makes my life a little easier! Here's a quick shot of it in action.

Wow, two posts in one day. This must be a record for me! :) I had back to back days with e-sessions, on two of the hottest days of the year! This is Becki and Keith. I met Becki last October at Jessica and Matt's Wedding. These guys were troopers because not only was it super hot outside, the mosquitoes were crazy that day. We took these shots at Pilcher Park. They were so easy to shoot, which made my job quite easy! Here are some of my favorites from that day!

Okay, so wedding season is upon us! As you can tell by the lack of posts. I officially went back to work last week, but had to sneak in a few sessions before
I came back. Here is an e-session I did with Michelle and Jon at the Naperville Riverwalk. The first day we tried had promise for a downpour, so we chose another day which was the hottest day of the summer so far! The weather this summer has been so unpredictable! We managed to get some great shots despite the weather. Their wedding is in December, and I can't wait. They've got some great things planned!

It's a Boy!

Hello!

Okay, this is the longest time inbetween blog posts, but I have a great reason why! Yes, we finally had the baby, and it's a boy! He was born on May 18th, at 7:53 am, and his name is Rylan James. He doesn't look like me at all, but a little like James, and actually my Grandpa and my brother. The only thing he got from me was an overbite and small butt...sorry kiddo!

So I had a scheduled c-section and needed to be at the hospital at 5:30AM. Ugh, I'm definitely not a morning person. So on our way to the hospital, James decided enough was enough, we had to start deciding on some names. Procrastination at it's best! For some reason with this one, nothing was jumping out at me, and I couldn't commit to anything. I narrowed down to one girl name, and 3 possibilities for a boy's name. James really wanted to know what the sex of the baby was, so at our 32 week appointment he found out! The stipulation was though he couldn't tell anyone, including me, what it was, or that he even knew. So he knew before anyone, and he said he thought it would be cool to know, until he realized it was torture not being able to share it with anyone! So going through the baby names knowing it was a boy, he had to humor me and come up with girl names too!

Okay, back to the delivery day...so I've decided that anyone who elects to have a c-section that doesn't need one, is crazy. I was SOOOO sick. Before they were even done stitching me up, I was (okay about to get a little graphic) vomiting, while still laying down, numb. It was terrible. The entire time after in the recovery room, and it was so often that it started to scare the nurse. She thought something must've been really wrong with me. They had given me 2 different doses of something to calm it down, but it obviously was not working. So she even called the anesthesiologist down to see me again. Then once I got into my room about an hour or so later, still going. I felt so drugged up the entire day. I wasn't able to hold poor Rylan until about 5 hours after the surgery. This experience was nothing like when I had Kailee. I guess it just makes a great story to tell him when he grows up!

So here is the first installment of photos from the hospital. Kailee came to visit everyday, but she had a hard time at the end of each night leaving me there. She didn't understand why mommy wasn't coming home, and why she couldn't stay the night. She was great though, and was really excited about being a big sister!

This is James all dressed up in what we called his "space suit." Seeing him get ready in this just cracked me up!

Jen and Nick's E-session

Hi Everyone!

Alright, here is an e-session I just did. Somehow we snuck it in inbetween all of this crazy weather we've been having, and we actually had a pretty nice day!
Jen and Nick found me online, and we immediately hit it off! What's even funnier, is that they live in the same neighborhood as my brother, just down the street. What a small world!

We were having so much fun just walking around, that I didn't realize how many pictures I had taken! They were complete naturals in front of the camera, so I think that may have had something to do with it! Here are some of my favorites from the session.

Sarah and Thai

Hi Everyone,

Here is a wedding that I jus did, this is Sarah and Thai. They live in Arizona, but their families both live in the Chicago area. After this day, I don't think they'll ever move back to the windy city! Let me just tell you that it was THE coldest day I've ever shot a wedding. I could not feel my fingers, and the wind was brutal. And I was wearing a coat! So needless to say, we shot a lot indoors! :) These two were troopers though and ventured out for a few minutes to grab some great shots.

Ava is here!

Hi Everyone! Here is little Ava. She was about 10 days when we took photos, and she was my little "guinea pig" for some of my new props. She did an excellent job! Most babies sleep the entire time, but not Ava. She was actually alert most of the time, and when I tried to put her on her stomach, she was lifting her head straight up. This is one of my favorites from the session, she looked so adorable in that hat.

I shot Ava's parents wedding in October of 2007, so it's so wonderful to have your clients come back for the next stage in their life! Melissa and Jim

The Envelope

Hi!

I just want to thank everyone for emailing me to see how I've been doing. I'm feeling great, other than being extremely tired all of the time. The beginning was definitely a little rocky, but it's been so much better and I'm in the last leg of the pregnancy.

So, we never found out with Kailee what we were having. I feel that there are very few surprises now in life, everything is SOOO planned out, that I thought we'd just leave it alone. James completely blew me away when we got engaged. I had no idea, and we were in Vegas after a work trip of his. He had kept the ring in his pocket all week until I arrived. It was on Valentine's day, and everywhere we went there were brides and bridesmaids running around. Seeing all that made him completely nervous. Other than that, I didn't even know he had bought a ring or anything. The ring and the proposal were a complete surprise. And it was awesome. I can't really explain it, but you just get blown away and completely caught up in the moment. So when the time came to find out for Kailee, I just didn't want to know. So now that there's a second little one on the way, I really didn't want to find out again. I said if James really wanted to know, we'd definitely consider it. And he wanted to know, but he could have it either way.

So let me take you back to January, when our ultrasound was. We're in the room saying, well do you want to know or don't you? So the ultrasound technician decides she is going to take a picture completely showing was the sex is, she writes on the back if it's a boy or girl, puts a piece of paper around it, and seals it in an envelope.

This envelope to be exact. As you can see, it looks a little tattered. This has been terrible that we have this envelope! At least if we had made the decision to not know back in January, it would've passed and that would've been it. But now we have this envelope. This envelope has been the topic of more conversations than I care to tell you. It seems like everyday someone is saying, have you opened that thing up yet???

So for everyone that keeps asking, NO WE'RE NOT OPENING IT!! (at least I don't think so)

Little Madeline

This weekend I did a baby session with little Madeline, who just turned 5 months.
She was so cute, and now I can't wait for the new baby to bless us with his/her presence. Everytime we would get her set up, she would look at anything, but me of
course. As soon as her mom picked her up, she would look at me and just smile. I was like, hey, where was that when I was trying to get some photos! She did really great though, and this is one of my favorites from the session. I love her little smirk.

Terry and Steven's E-Session

Hi Everyone,

Okay, long overdue, I know I know. I have a lot to talk about! Okay, first, I wanted to blog about Terry and Steven. They are getting married this June, and it's a good thing, b/c this engagement session, it was about negative 9. Yes, you heard me, negative 9. I have never shot in that cold of weather, and so I didn't blame them when they wanted to do most of it inside. So we chose something close to their hearts, an indoor arcade. We later went outside for a few shots, and I swear I was the happiest girl alive that I owned heated seats in my car. I couldn't feel my thighs for about 15 minutes! Check out their pics.

So I was so busy in late summer and fall, that I left out some of the weddings I shot. So in the following weeks, I will be showcasing them.

In the meantime, thanks for everyone writing to see how I'm feeling. I've actually been doing really well, and just trying to get all of my ducks in a row before this baby shows up. I feel like I'm running out of time!! Anyways, more on that on the next post.

Kailee's 3rd Birthday

Hi Everyone,

It's been crazy busy this month. I thought I'd actually get a little break...who the heck was I kidding. First, James turned 35 this year at the end of January. 2 days later, it was Kailee's 3rd birthday. That weekend, Kailee's party. And let me just tell you, I hate holidays and birthday b/c I have a hard time balancing being mom, photographer, entertainer all at once. I feel like when I go to someone else's party, I get these fabulous photos of everyone, then when it's my own parties, well, to put it bluntly, they stink. B/c as I'm picking up the camera, someone's pulling me into the kitchen to get the food ready to serve, then another guest comes, so off to the door I go to greet them, then the people I went to take a picture of, well they're gone, so I'm relocating them, but now they're eating....then it's time for cake, and I'm like CAKE??? I didn't even eat yet? (Not that I don't mind eating a little cake before my meal :) It's a vicious cycle all day. So this year, I said I want to enjoy myself a little more. I'm not going to invite the entire state of Illinois to my daughter's birthday party. Maybe just half of the state. Hey, I'm italian, everything we do is BIG!

So I was able to grab a few photos here and there.

Then we decided to do a craft. Since Kailee's birthday theme was Little Mermaid, picked by Kailee herself, we decorated a mermaid!

Okay, this needs it's own introduction. James' Grandma Sally made these cakes.
NOT STORE BOUGHT...and they were amazing. The first one had jelly beans for rocks, graham cracker crumbs for sand, fruit roll ups for the seaweed, and of course a mermaid in the shell. Grandma thought of everything. The second cake...well, let's just say I didn't even know there was going to be a second cake. The second one is actually Ariel. I have no idea how she did this one. It had to have taken forever to get this much detail. Check it out for yourself.

During the present opening, Kailee thought she would turn the cards around and attempt
to read them to everyone watching. She was more interested in the cards then the presents!

It's a New Year!

Hi Everyone!

It's a brand new year, and I'm so excited! 2008 was a wonderful year, and I want to thank all of my great clients that helped make that happen! At my last wedding in December, I was talking to Dan the groom, as we were watching another photographer do their thing with another couple, and you could tell the couple didn't want to be there. And I told him that I'm very lucky to have such great clients. We have fun all day, getting what we need while having a good time. That's how it's suppose to be. Somehow the clients who choose me, well, we're a perfect match. Over the time we definitely form a friendship, which I think makes the entire process so great, for both of us! This year was no different. I was able to shoot some great weddings for some great couples, and was so happy to share in their day. I had a few of my couples while getting up in front of their guests to thank their parents and bridal party, who thanked me for doing such a good job. How awesome is that!

So thank you to all my clients! I can't wait to share what's new for the upcoming year!

Well, I can't post without a picture, right?? So here's one I took this Christmas. From left to right is Kailee with her cousins Emily and Grace. Emily is 5 and Grace is 2 1/2, and they are sisters. Not that I need to tell you, b/c they look exactly a like! So I know my own daughter and my nieces well, so getting the right pose was crucial in how long they were going to sit still for me, which was exactly about 1 second before one of them looked away or one of them sqeezed the other WAY to hard. Somehow you always get what you need though! Enjoy

Merry Christmas Everyone!

I just wanted to make a quick post to say I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday! This is the Christmas card we sent out to our friends and family this year, I guess it always helps when you have such a cute model! Kailee is getting so big, she will be 3 at the end of next month. It's going by way too fast!

Well, we've been saving this announcement for a while, but Kailee will soon have a partner in crime! :) Thought it would make a great surprise present for everyone! Not sure yet if we'll find out what we're having, since I love surprises so much we may just wait.
